CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY
Concordia University of Austin is planning the relocation of its campus from the current site in Central Austin to a former office complex bordered by a wildlife preserve. HS&A prepared a Due Diligence report that identified costs for the development of the new site, provided an initial programming study to determine how best to utilize the existing buildings, and recommended new construction to continue existing educational programs on the new site.
HS&A analyzed and proposed solutions for additional areas of concern in the relocation, such as accessibility, fencing required for the preserve and campus security, and fundraising. As the new location is also natural habitat for the Golden-Cheeked Warbler (an endangered species), HS&A accounted for associated restrictions in site planning and construction schedule.
The key to HS&A's work was determining the minimum amount of facilities that the University could operate with on opening day by relocating each department and facility into the appropriate amount of space to accommodate current needs as well as anticipated future growth.
HS&A will manage the design, construction and relocation efforts associated with the first phase of the project. Subsequent phases will include a new chapel, performing arts center and various other additions and expansions of the academic and athletic facilities.
