AUSTIN MUSEUM OF ART
HS&A was the Project Manager for pre-construction and the Construction Manager/General Contractor for the restoration of the Laguna Gloria Driscoll Villa, located in Austin, Texas.
The Mediterranean-style villa was built in 1916 by Clara Driscoll Sevier. The Villa and associated art school are positioned on 12 acres overlooking Lake Austin. Prior to being purchased by Clara Driscoll, the land was owned by Stephen F. Austin and currently contains two State Archeological Landmarks. The Villa is on City, State, and National historic registers. The Villa and surrounding landscape are decorated with sculptures and collections picked by Clara Driscoll and overlook a sheltered lagoon which inspired its name.
A concrete structure with stucco veneer, the Villa was restored for use as space for exhibits, classes, and special events. The comprehensive interior restoration consisted of repairing and replacing plaster; restoring and refinishing fine millwork; replacing the building's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; and installing a fire protection system. Exterior restoration consisted of installing new roofs, replacing the concrete terrace to match the existing original pattern, along with upgrades to the grounds surrounding the Villa.
The Project was completed in June of 2003.
