THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN

HS&A provided Project Management services on the ACES Project for the O'Donnell Foundation and The University of Texas at Austin (UT). The O'Donnell Foundation, a private non-profit organization from Dallas, leased the site from the University during construction and donated the building to UT upon completion.

The ACES Project is a five story, 180,000 square foot, $38 million research facility located in the heart of the UT-Austin campus. The building provides a collaborative environment for high tech research, bringing together the Departments of Computer Sciences, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Texas Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (TICAM).

The building incorporates a state-of-the-art Lucent Giga-SPEED telecommunications infrastructure. The building was designed and constructed to maximize flexibility for future expansion. To meet this requirement the building features below ceiling cabletrays and surface mounted raceways for cable distribution as well as redundant pathways and room for expansion.

The Project includes a distance learning auditorium, electronic seminar room, and 12 other audio-visual equipped seminar rooms. The building's visualization lab incorporates leading edge technology for computer visualization research in a 360 degree projected environment driven by a Silicon Graphics supercomputer. The entire audio-visual system for the building is integrated and controllable over the internet via a web browser.

The Project was completed and turned over to the University in July 2000.
