CALDWELL COUNTY
HS&A was the Project Manager for the Caldwell County Courthouse Restoration Project. The Project was a multi-phase design and construction program that culminated in the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic 1894 Courthouse. The three-story, load-bearing masonry Courthouse was constructed with Muldoon sandstone. The complex roof consists of multiple mansard elements and a central clock tower. Prior to beginning work on the Courthouse, HS&A managed the design and construction of the County Courthouse Annex and several other county buildings.
Historic photo documentation permitted the exterior of the building to be restored to its original appearance. The black slate roof and the decorative ironwork were replicated and the stone and metalwork were restored.
On the building interior, the two-story courtroom was returned to its original volume, the vaulted iron ceilings throughout the rest of the Courthouse were exposed, and the antique pine finish materials were restored. HS&A was also the architect for the Interior Project.
